Analysis of Thriller Posters

Analysis of Thriller Posters

This is the poster for the film Seven.

The colours on this poster are; white, black, red, orange, brown and yellow. Orange, yellow and black are the main colours used. The yellow, orange and black all contrast each other, making each of them stand out separately. Down the middle of the poster are the seven deadly sins, each will a red line struck threw them, the red line implies that a knife has done it or fingers, like deep scratch marks, giving connotations of death. The colour of yellow on the poster doesn't look health it looks unnatural, like a corpse. The strap line at the bottom of the poster "Seven deadly sins. Seven ways to die" implies that it is a thriller because there will be killing in this film, because it says it, meaning it gives a hidden but obvious message of death. With these light and dark colours, the whites of the characters eyes stand out, making there stare more pronounced. The title and actors names stand out in white against the brown and yellow colour. The little hints of red throughout the poster add emphasis to the poster making the theme of a thriller more powerful, because red gives the connotation of blood.

This is the poster for One Hour Photo

The colours used on this poster are red, black, white, brown and yellow. The main colours are red, white and black. The red isn't a natural red, it seems to be artificial like the colour used when developing photo's in a photo room, and the red is also connotations of blood. The photo's are all white and black and are slowly taking over the character's face on the page, concealing his identity. The character standing with his back facing us is in brown to make him stand out in front of the white and black photo's, and he looks isolated. The character in the background in red is holding a camera close to his eye this shows us what the film is about. All these things are typical of a thriller film.

This is the poster for Identity

The colours used on this poster are red, black and white. The background is white making the black and red hand stand out. The red had connotations of blood, like you've got blood on your hands, as a murderer would. The connotation of the hand print is death and crime. Within the hand is a face, together by make up identity, meaning we all have different identity and no one is the same. The way the hand print has been drawn the fingers are people, all together these separate images make up the image of a hand and the idea of identity. The poster represents the genre of the film due the the blood on the hand and the image of the person on the hand looking like he's screaming. The hand prints and finger prints are the kind of things you would expect to find in a crime, or thriller film.
